C Luke Maile (left hamstring tightness)
Expected return:
End of April
Maile was slated to miss three to four weeks after an MRI revealed a left hamstring strain. RHP James Karinchak (mild right shoulder strain)
Expected return:
According to manager Terry Francona, Karinchak will remain in Goodyear, Ariz., to continue working with the training staff in warmer weather as he starts to ramp back up into game activity. He had been shut down for over a week due to a mild strain found in the teres major muscle. But Francona said his progression thus far has been positive.

“Karinchak is doing pretty well. We’re getting close to figuring out when he could [start] throwing off a mound. He’s doing OK,” Francona said. — Mike Petraglia (Last updated: April 12)

RHP Carlos Vargas (Tommy John recovery)
Expected return: TBD
Vargas underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2021 and is expected to continue his rehab program in Arizona until his arm is built back up. — Mandy Bell (Last updated: April 2)

RHP Cody Morris (lat strain)
Expected return:
Morris began experiencing tightness in his arm in a bullpen session just after Cactus League games got underway. He underwent an MRI that revealed a strain of the teres major muscle. He’s expected to be shut down from throwing for four to six weeks before getting reevaluated. — Mandy Bell (Last updated: March 23)
