Injuries & Moves: X-rays negative for Trout (hand)

CF Mike Trout (left hand contusion)
Expected return: Day to day
Trout left the game April 17 in the fifth inning after being hit on his left hand by a slider from Rangers right-hander Spencer Patton. Trout underwent X-rays that came back negative, and he said after the game that his hand was swollen but improving. Manager Joe Maddon said Trout is likely to be out for the game on April 18 against the Astros and they’ll continue to evaluate him from there. — Rhett Bollinger (Last updated: April 17)

10-day and 15-day injured lists

SS David Fletcher (left hip tightness)
Expected return: TBD
Fletcher left the game on April 11 against the Marlins in the seventh inning with left hip tightness and was placed on the 10-day injured list on April 12. Fletcher was bothered by the injury at the end of Spring Training and he felt discomfort during action April 11. Fellow shortstop Andrew Velazquez was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to take Fletcher’s place on the roster. Head athletic trainer Mike Frostad said on April 14 that Fletcher remained in Anaheim to receive treatment and there’s no timetable for his return just yet. — Rhett Bollinger (Last updated: April 14)

LHP José Quijada (right oblique strain)
Expected return: Possibly late April
Quijada was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain on April 10. He warmed up in the bullpen during the game on April 9 but never entered the game. Lefty Brian Moran had his contract selected from Triple-A Salt Lake to replace Quijada on the roster. — Rhett Bollinger (Last updated: April 10)

RHP Cooper Criswell (right shoulder strain)
Expected return:
Possibly June
Criswell went back to Southern California to have his shoulder examined, which revealed a strain. He has yet to start throwing again and was transferred to the 60-day IL on April 8. — Rhett Bollinger (Last updated: April 8)

RHP Griffin Canning (lower back stress fracture)
Expected return: Possibly late May
Canning missed most of the 2021 season due to injury, but he was cleared to start his throwing program in February. Then Canning suffered a setback while throwing a bullpen session that month. He has been able to throw from 90 feet on flat ground and will progress to throwing off a mound by late April. — Rhett Bollinger (Last updated: April 7)

RHP Chris Rodriguez (torn right shoulder capsule)
Expected return: Possibly late 2022
Rodriguez underwent surgery in the offseason to repair a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder and is expected to miss most of the season. But he has been throwing from 90 feet, and the Angels are holding out hope he could return late in the season. Rhett Bollinger (Last updated: March 29)
