Orioles ace John Means will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery, the left-hander announced on Saturday.
“After multiple MRI’s it’s confirmed that I need Tommy John surgery,” Means tweeted. “I’m obviously disappointed, but more motivated than ever. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to watching what this team can do this year.”
Means left his April 13 start with a left elbow injury that was revealed to be a strain by his first MRI. Means has missed time to recurring, but relatively minor, shoulder issues each of the past three seasons, but along the way, he’s pitched to a 3.72 ERA in 69 games (65 starts) since 2019, emerging as the team’s unquestioned ace.
