Yelich hit a two-out grand slam for his first home run on Monday night, ending a power drought that dated to last Sept. 24 against the Mets. The left fielder went homerless the rest of the way in 2021, including in the National League Division Series against the Braves, then went homerless in Spring Training and the Brewers’ first 10 regular-season games of ‘22 before connecting in the fourth inning against Pirates right-hander Zach Thompson.
Yelich’s fourth career slam punctuated a five-run Brewers rally for a 6-1 lead as Milwaukee bid to push back above .500. Home runs have been hard to come by so far; the Brewers entered Monday with five of them this season, tied with the Pirates and Royals for the second fewest in MLB ahead of only the Orioles’ four.
