CLEVELAND — Not even a walk-off situation can get rookie Steven Kwan rattled.

The No. 1 thing that Kwan has displayed since breaking camp with the Guardians has been patience. No matter how big the situation, he’s handled each one like a seasoned pro, including when he sent a walk-off single to right field to lift the Guardians to a 6-5 extra-innings victory in the nightcap of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Padres at Progressive Field.

Kwan has checked off nearly every Major League first aside from his first home run. But on Wednesday, he added his first walk-off and first on-field celebration.

The Guardians battled back, not only from a Game 1, 5-4, loss, but also a three run-deficit in the eighth inning of the nightcap to knot the contest at 5 and eventually force extra innings. And Kwan, who pinch-hit for Oscar Mercado earlier in the night, was the man of the hour when he stepped in with runners on first and second in the bottom of the 10th.

The win also snapped Cleveland’s streak of six straight series of either being swept or sweeping their opponent.
