The Mets announced on Monday morning that infielder Robinson Canó has been designated for assignment. Reliever Yoan López was also optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. That brings their roster to 26 players ahead of Monday’s deadline to trim rosters to that number.
Having been DFA’d, Canó has been removed from the Mets’ 40-man roster. If he is not claimed in the next seven days, he can either be traded or placed on irrevocable outright waivers.
Canó has hit .195 with one home run in 12 games, after missing the entirety of the 2021 season with his second suspension for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.
